Smith County 9-1-1
Communications District
Subdivision Addressing Requirements:
The issuance of an address by the 9-1-1 District does not
exempt any property owner from compliance with any municipality or County
subdivision regulations. Any request that appear to be in violation of Smith
County or a municipality subdivision regulation will be forwarded to the
appropriate entity for their investigation.
1) Addressing requests involving the subdivision or
re-subdivision of property will only be accepted on plats approved and
recorded by Smith County or the appropriate municipality.
If, in the opinion of the Operations Manager, a preliminary address
needs to be issued prior to final approval and recording of the subdivision or
re-subdivision plat the following guidelines will be followed:
• Documentation must be provided that the subject property is
in the review process for approval by Smith County or appropriate municipality.
• A plat of survey must be presented to the District. The lot requiring an
address must be identified on a survey and include existing boundary lines in
sufficient detail to accurately locate the property, show remaining tracts and
tied to an existing roadway.
• Written request must be provided detailing why waiting for the plat approval
would cause an undue burden on the property owner.
• Any preliminary address assigned prior to final approval may be changed after
final approval if necessary.
• Addresses for lots on unapproved plats will only be assigned on approved
public or private roads. Addresses will not be issued on proposed public or
private roads until an approved final plat is received by the District.
2) Addressing requests not involving formal platting or
exempt from Smith County or other municipality subdivision ordinances can
generally be processed within three working days. The lot requiring an address
must be identified on a survey and include existing boundary lines in sufficient
detail to accurately locate the property, show remaining tracts and tied to an
existing roadway.
